Live Animal Capture, Immobilisation

& Live Animal Care Training

The live capture of any animal has significant implications in so far as both animal welfare and human health and safety are concerned. Therefore, specialised training in the correct, safe and humane capture techniques is vital if animal welfare and operator safety is not to be compromised.

The treatment of animals both before and after capture is crucial to avoid causing unnecessary stress, injury and death.  This course teaches vital skills in equipment use, underpinned with a solid basis of understanding in the way immobilising agents affect animals, as well as how to implement safety precautions, and essential accident protocols.

With a career in game management and conservation across Africa, I am constantly striving to broaden my horizons with further my education through experience and new found qualifications.  Finding an unexpected course like this while I was visiting family in England, set conveniently over a 3 day weekend was a true bonus and an unanticipated pleasure. The staff were nothing but exceptional, consisting of a small, friendly and highly professional team.  Granted, it can be a steep learning curve for someone with no previous experience in a related field, but the discussion lectures and in-depth knowledge of the staff was unparalleled to anything I would have expected. The follow up practical side of the course really opened up new perspectives and explanations to what was learnt in the classroom; from concocting mixtures of immobilising agents for the darts, to handling and operating with accuracy and safety the dart projector.  Witnessing a live animal capture for a local deer farm and seeing everything we were taught put into practice rounded off the whole experience.

I can’t recommend Premier Wildlife enough. The attention to detail and considered approach the team offered our small class was invaluable. I will be returning to Africa with a fountain of knowledge that I shall be putting into practice.”
