Introduction to Firearms Training

Excellence in Deer Stalker training and Wildlife Management

Introduction to Firearms Training

Before taking part in any form of shooting, whether it be vermin control with an air rifle, clay pigeon shooting with a shotgun or deer stalking with a hunting rifle, it is vital that you are fully aware of how firearms work.  You must be conversant with what that means insofar as what your responsibilities are towards human safety and animal welfare, and not least your legal standpoint.

Many Police constabularies are now insistent that you have some formal training prior to them granting you a SGC (Shotgun Certificate) or FAC (Firearms Certificate).

The Jelen PWS Firearms Awareness Course is LANTRA approved, and is renowned as being one of the finest courses of its kind and teaches you all you need to know to become a safe and competent firearm user.

The course includes the following:

  • The 10 commandments in firearms safety
  • Firearms law and your legal responsibility
  • Firearms and shotgun types including safety features
  • Ammunition and what you need to know about it
  • Firearms care and maintenance
  • Basic marksmanship and practical shooting on simulated targets
  • Shot placement, reactions and effects

LANTRA is one of the leading awarding bodies for land-based industries in both the UK and the Republic of Ireland.  Lantra is accredited by the British Standards Institution (BSI) for ISO 9001:2015 and ISMS 27001:2013 for Skills+.  It is also recognised by Ofqual, SQA, and Qualification Wales.
